Defining Design Styles

In the realm of architecture and design, Burdge Architects thrives on an enduring truth: good design is good design, regardless of the style. Our core philosophy centers around the floor plan, the foundational cornerstone of every project. Get the floor plan right, and you've set the stage for a space that's not only functional but also flows seamlessly. Once this foundation is solid, we layer on our distinctive style, transforming each endeavor into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. With our unwavering commitment to exceptional design, we've become known for our remarkable versatility and boundless creativity. Keep reading to explore the diverse styles that define Burdge Architects and delve into exceptional projects showcasing our expertise.

Coastal Modern

Coastal Modern is our unique take on modern style. It's characterized by flat roofs, open spaces filled with natural light, and a harmonious blend of plaster, stone, wood, and other natural materials. In projects like the Escondido Beach Modern, you'll find large, open-concept spaces where the kitchen and living areas seamlessly merge. Our design philosophy here revolves around simplicity - there's no clutter, no unnecessary complexity. Instead, spaces flow into one another, and there's almost as much window space as there are walls, connecting the indoors with the breathtaking outdoor views.

Coastal Contemporary

Coastal Contemporary is where we blur the lines between modern and traditional. This style frequently incorporates gabled volumes with standing seam metal roofs, offering a unique fusion of innovation and tradition. Take our Pacific Contemporary project as an example. Here, we mix textures like traditional wood flooring with, sleek metal rods on the stair rail, and contemporary exterior accents like exposed steel columns on the patio. The front door, crafted from natural wood, marries traditional materials with a modern pivot door design.

Spanish Influence/Hacienda Style

Spanish Influence, often intertwined with contemporary and traditional elements, offers a rich tapestry of plaster, natural woods, tiled roofs, and more. There are countless interpretations of this style, from the more traditional ones like our Casa Bindley, featuring dark wood accents, hand-painted tiles, and classic wood windows, to the contemporary spin in Casa Paraíso.

Here, we've blended Spanish influence with a coastal vibe, creating a Mediterranean-inspired look with a contemporary twist. The archways provide a traditional frame to the modern pool area, and palm trees offer a lush, modern touch to the property's front.

“Rustern” and Mountain Style Architecture

Moving beyond specific design styles, we find Rustern, a fusion of rustic mountain elements with modern openness. In projects like the Grand Lodge and Riverside Retreat, we combine rustic, hand-hewn alder accents with open floor plans. The breathtaking mountain views are skillfully integrated into every room, and exterior stonework adds a grand touch to the design.

Traditional Luxury

Finally, for those who appreciate classic design, our Traditional Luxury projects like Luxury Cape Cod offer a timeless experience. Here, the shingle-style exterior meets white moldings, trim, and intricate details. The front door boasts traditional design features, and bedroom ceilings showcase a beautiful vaulted design.

At Burdge Architects, our range of design styles isn't just about diversity; it's a celebration of exceptional design principles for every taste. From the clean lines of Coastal Modern to the harmonious fusion of Coastal Contemporary, the rich tapestry of Spanish Influence, the regional charm of Rustern and Mountain Style Architecture, and the timeless elegance of Traditional Luxury, we are passionate about creating architectural masterpieces that redefine luxury living.
